unfulfilled lunch

i went to kluang station with boss n another colleague. boss wanted to go to shopping center coz we were supposed to buy milo for the pantry so we ended up in 1u. and i suddenly thot of kluang station coz ev mentioned it this morning :D

i ordered the kluang laksa - and i had never eaten it before but i've concluded that i dun really like it. it's too lemak and i think i prefer the normal curry laksa variety and of coz swak laksa over this one. i cudn't finish it, and i just felt unsatisfied somehow after the meal...ev wanted to drink the 'cham' and i suggested boss order it coz she likes 'cham' too - she said it wasn't too bad. i was almost going to sms ev and ask her "wan me to tapau 'cham' from kluang station?" hehehe

spending like rm10 on a lunch which left me wanting for more...i think my maggi mee tonite wil taste better!! hahaha

my ears hurt

i went for a fren's wedding last nite - and now my ears hurt. why? because thru out the nite, all the aunties + uncles were singing their heart out - and i was in the direct line of the speakers! needless to say, they chose all the old old oldies - and if i ever entertained the idea of having karaoke during my own wedding dinner - this has strengthened my resolve NOT to! that said, they all seemed to be having a real good time ;)

the groom's mum took up ballroom dancing so her group of frens were there, and while the singing was going on, they got up and started dancing in front of the stage. it was quite 'entertaining' for the rest of us who didn't have the guts to do the same. hehe. the one who really really took us by surprise was this uncle who despite being in his late 60s probably, cud groove and rap to techno music and put the rest of us young ppl to shame. he got everyone laughing and cheering him on, and of coz, he had the loudest applause too. someone commented that he might have been the Disco King of during his heydays. i think that's really believeable after his performance last nite! haha.

the dinner last nite was a typical Chinese wedding - so there isn't much to share in terms of happenings (not counting the karaoke), but the highlight for me was just to see one of my frens beaming and glowing with happiness on her big day, and to be able to witness the joining together of two people in marriage is a priviledge.

here's a toast to the newlyweds, Jenn Sin & Kar Hooi - to everlasting love and a lifetime of joy together!

last day of school (not for me la)

today was the last teaching day for the January semester for my students. this particular class of students are the most boisterous of all my classes, and on the whole they are very fun and enjoyable to teach because they are game for any sort of activities. the class only has 2 gals, the rest are all boys which might explain the level of hyper energy and their rather short attention span at times :D

the thing which we all like to see is that they all get along well, and they mix well together regardless of their nationalities and the languages they speak. so when they make frens with others in class, they actually use English even tho it's not perfect. hehehe.

they started taking pics and i also joined in the fun. there's a pic of me looking like i wanna strangle my student. hahahaha. there's a guy who's 6 1/2 feet tall and man, did i look like a dwarf standing next to him! hehehe. i shall post up the pics when i get it from my students.

right now, i'm dreading the thought of finishing my assignments - i only have 3 weeks before the deadline!! arrgghh. pls pray i can finish it in time yea. thanks. also, i have like tonnes and tonnes of reading and research to do before my exams - so i hope i make it to the end of april! :P

30 min wait before food

i've just had fruits and being a firm believer in the 30 mins wait (after u eat fruits, need to let it digest first then only can eat rice!) i decided to blog while waiting for time to pass :D

last nite my LF went for outing - bowling in 1u. david suggested we go out coz we haven't done outings for the longest time ever and everyone was game. so after dinner in New Paris where most of us ate their famous marmite pork ribs rice, it was off to 1u.

there were 4 guys and 4 gals so we formed 2 teams. i was with tina, david and shawin. the other team comprised of cat, josh, mark (josh's fren) and sheau ping. it was quite fun playing in teams coz we get to cheer each other on and we have extra motivation to play well to beat the other team. i think my team won both rounds! hehehe. of coz i dun claim to be a good player. haha. haven't played in years but overall i enjoyed it a lot. even managed to get 2 strikes. *jumps up and down in joy*

after the first round, all the gals had strikes but the only guy who managed one was david. so the other guys were 'under pressure' to perform. hehehe. it was quite funny actually coz they wud be so close but they'd miss a pin in the end. josh had to endure extra ribbing from us coz the monitors went crazy after we started the 2nd game, and when the guy came to enter the score for his throw he gave him a strike instead of the spare which he scored. so his was the "fake" strike while ours were genuine. hahaha. thank goodness he managed to save face by getting a strike finally.

i can even gloat that i managed to get the same score as josh in the 2nd round. hahahaa. the guys also played pool and that football machine thingy which was quite exciting. tina and i also had go with the guys and 'practiced' shooting the ball. cat was so gung-ho about taking pics that she actually went home to take her camera.

it was really an enjoyable outing i must say. next time i shall ask ev to go bowling! ;)

of heartache and disappointment

my brother, eric is taking his SPM this yr. last nite, i asked him how his add math tuition class was, coz he had just enrolled recently. he told me that he had a bet with his teacher on whether he wud score full marks in his test. today he told me he DID actually get 100% for his test. of coz i was happy and congratulated him and told him to keep up the good work.

then i got another sms from him. he said "u know what? i told mum i got full marks and she said that my tutor probably 'pakat' with my teacher so that they can get more students at their tuition center". he was so angry. my parents are giving tuition at home now, and my dad teaches add maths too but in english. my bro is doing his in BM still, coz the change to eng only came in effect after his year.

i tried to console him and said perhaps it's because my mum viewed the tuition center as a competition and therefore, she could only see that side of things. my mum told me recently that some students left our tuition center after 1-2 months in class, and she was worried about things.

i told my bro that i was proud of him and that he should continue to work hard and let his results speak for themselves. and that as long as he did his best, and put in the effort, he should be proud of himself.

later he replied that he actually cried because all he had hoped for was a word of congratulations for his effort, and he didn't get anything of that sort. it wasn't even acknowledged! when i read that, my own eyes filled with tears, and i really felt for him.

when kids are looking for affirmation and encouragement but they are not given any, it crushes their spirits and it makes them want to give up trying because they don't see why they shud. it really pains me. i told him i loved him, and our heavenly Father loves him too.

it's not that my parents are bad people, they are also human beings with their own weaknesses and limitations. as i grow older, i realise that i still do long for affection and affirmation from my parents, especially my dad but he's the sort that usually doesn't take the initiative in parenting. i love him to bits and i adore him, and his opinion matters a lot to me, but he's also 'absent' in some ways, and until now, i still long to be closer to him.

i feel a lot for my bro coz we lost our late mum when he was only 3 (the mum now is actually my stepmum) and we grew up with my dad for bout 5-6 years before he remarried. i feel he's lost out on so many things simply because he didn't have a mum. now that he's a teenager, it's really important for him that he doesn't go the 'wrong way' so to speak, but sometimes i feel helpless to help him.

if only parents knew how much just a word of affirmation or praise means to us children. it really does make a world of difference. i can only tell my brother that i'm proud of him, and pray and hope that he would not be bitter about incidents like this until he loses heart in trying to do his best.

a hodgepodge of things..

  • i was talking to dion 2 nites ago and we were both commiserating bout our lives as students - she's got about 3 weeks more to go in her final year in dentistry course and she's panicking coz there are so many things to finish and so little time. i was moaning bout my assignments and how i haven't even found anything suitable for my 5,000 word essay that i'm supposed to be doing for my critical discourse analysis class. we both had meant to go to bed, but we started talking coz i heard dion sighing out loud and asked her what's wrong and then we just talked for about 40 mins i think. i dunno bout dion, but i felt good being able to just share with her and it's true what they say "a burden shared is a burden halved"...

  • i seriously cannot wait for exams to be over and for church camp to come (28 apr) - that's the reward i'm giving myself for getting thru the semester (hopefully) and then a few frens and i are planning a probable trip to redang island some time in may. then there's also a trip to spore coming up perhaps sometimes in july - i hope it materializes! hehee. if it does, that wud be my first trip there after 10 years!!!

  • my colleague sent me a music clip of madagascar "i like to move it" and immediately i thot of my lil bro ezra - and i suddenly missed him so much. i'll be going home in july for dad's birthday but it's a long way to go yet. i think i shall find the time to call him so i can hear his cute lil voice. hehe. there is no place like home and even tho after a few weeks at home i might be itching to be anywhere but home, it's irreplaceable and family will always be family.

  • the blessings of frens are really one of the best gifts my Father has given me. tonite i have a class in UM and my colleague who's also my coursemate decided not to go but she still offered to send me to class. and then my housemate offered to pick me up from class knowing that i would hv problems coming home at nite since the class ends at 9pm, and we're going for root beer float in a&w's after she picks me :) what seems like a small 'problem' (transport i mean) can be tiresome when u hv to go thru it many times, but thank God for frens! they really make all the difference.

  • students say the darnest things! they shud make a reality show bout the sort of things students come up with. i had one guy walk up to me in the office yesterday saying "I want to go home. Do you have credit card?" my immediate reaction was to say no - and then i was so baffled as to what made him think we'd let him use our credit cards even if we had one?? i seriously dunno what goes on in that little brain of his.

  • then another student told me that i looked cute out of the blue when i was walking around the class checking on their work - i was wearing a white cardi paired with light green dress yesterday - mb that's what did the trick ;) then today an ex-student saw me in college, i smiled at him and said hi. later he told my colleague (he was chatting with her on msn) and told her i looked soooo beautiful! :D :D hahaha. well, at least they're saying nice things about me huh? there's another guy who always says i look very serious in class, and if i smiled more i'd look much prettier! so i shud polish up my smile eh? hehehehe

  • the ISO auditors are here to check on us again - happens every year and yesterday all my colleagues were scrambling to get all the documents in order before the audit. sometimes i just don't get all this ISO thing- i dun think all the institutions that have ISO actually bother to comply to the rules all the time, and it's just only when they come to check. and then when it's over, everything is back to 'normal' again. haha. what's the point? i wonder...

  • ah, ok i think i've got everything out. at least what i can think of at the moment anyway. so i can say "yay, i blogged today!" hahahaha

my 50th post

i've been meaning to blog but somehow the inspiration never did come and being really busy this week doesn't help either :P

i saw that i had written 49 posts already (counting a draft still in a process) - it's been almost a year since i started blogging. time really catches up on u real quick - granted, i haven't written all that much for the first months of my blogging experience but it's been good overall.

thanks to ev, ingching and of course my housemate cum famous blogger irene plus many others who inspired me to put words into writing, and i find myself quite enjoying this journey so far.

i would have wanted to have a more "impressive" blogpost for my 50th post but as it turns out, this is a post on me not knowing what to post. hahaha :D the irony of things *shakes head*

there are things and thoughts swirling around in my head but i suspect it's not yet time to put them down on 'paper' and prolly i shall let them grow and take more turns while i process it before actually writing anything. we'll see how lar.

march is going to fly by for me - mostly i anticipate i'll be busy catching up with all the readings i'm supposed to for my uni classes, plus actually completing my assignments and hopefully get a start on studying for my exams. i'm thankful classes at work wil be over in 2 weeks, and i'll get a break from teaching for bout 2-3 weeks altho there's marking and other stuff to be done at the end of the semester.

i'm looking forward for april to end - there's church camp coming up just at the right time (when my exams should be finished) and then it'll be may already! and we'll be almost into 1/2 of the year.

perhaps when i'm on my long break, i'll have some time to tweak and play around with my blog template and hopefully, spruce up this place a bit to make it more interesting! hehehe. tunggu dan lihatlah (don't hold ur breath tho' - might not happen in the end!) :D

have a good week, whatever's left of it!
