gals' nite out

i'm back in kuching for a week and a couple of my friends decided to plan a 'hen's night' for me. i have no idea why it's called a hen's night - sounds rather crude to me but anyways, 8 of us gals had some fun time tonite.

they took me to dinner at 'Mr.Ho's Fine Dining' which served pretty good food at decent prices. the healthy pasta (it looked green!) was delicious, and for someone who doesn't like coriander - i was surprised to find i actually liked the pasta. the rest of the food wasn't bad either. before the end of the dinner, they brought out their 'tools' - a full veil, and a choker made of ribbon with flower petals. i had to wear it the whole nite. haha. but i was thankful the veil actually looked kinda nice.

that was just the beginning. we went to town and i was given more tasks to perform. it was a good thing i had told myself to just take everything with an open mind and be a good sport. first, i had to approach 2 tables of people at Bing's to tell them how i met my husband-to-be. and next, at Mojo, i had to ask 3 guys for their names and phone numbers - maykee even prepared a marker pen so that i can't wash it off so easily! man, these gals ARE prepared!

after that i had to choose a song that both sherm and i liked - and sing it to people sitting around at Coffee Bean. i had to think quite a while for a song. i hardly listen to pop songs nowadays, and most of the songs we share in common are christian songs. but it wud be kinda weird to sing 'be thou my vision' or such to complete strangers. then i remembered - 'the sound of music'! it's a movie we both love, and it's such a classic. so i took and deep breath, and sang 'elderweiss', that got me applause from everyone there. hahaha...

the other 2 tasks involved me going up to more strangers and saying more silly things - so i shall spare you of those details :p suffice to say, that their expressions were priceless and we got a lot of laughs out of that.

if u were thinking that this doesn't sound very characteristic of me, u're probably right. but i decided to just go along and have some fun with the gals so i won't disappoint them and make the whole nite a drag. i was very glad they kept liquor out of the equation, and all we did was have some good clean fun, with lots of laughs thrown in.

all the ladies looked gorgeous, and the photos will be proof of a memorable night out. i might post one or two pics here when i get them :)

week 1 after the move

it's been almost a week since i moved down south to this little town of seremban, a new phase of life for me...

obviously, before the big move, there was packing to be done. i spent about 6 hours on sat night doing some last minute packing, and sherman thought that it was incredulous of me to expect all my things to fit into the car. :p i had to leave some things there until we can collect them during the next trip, and ended up leaving some important files behind. my own fault lah that...

apart from that, it has been good overall. there are ups and downs, but being able to discuss it with sherman and the guys helped tremendously. there have been instances where i felt overwhelmed by things but it was resolved fairly quickly. sherman told me to just relax and let the feeling of home seep in. the notion of having a place to call my own hasn't sunk in entirely yet, i think...

i'm glad to have some time and space away from a full-time job, and that i will not have to rush to settle down as would have been the case if i went into another job immediately. i have the luxury of staying at home, but not as a 'tai-tai' lah. my immediate goals for the next 3 months are to get settled down here, find my role within the family, complete my final project for the masters i'm taking and looking into the finer details of the wedding. i will also be looking into getting another job to start in jan08. of course, there are the day to day things to look into as well, as well as forming a new routine for myself.

as for adjustment to being in seremban, i have the occasional fleeting thoughts for the familiarity of the life in PJ - my housemates, the food, the places i used to go, but no deep longings as yet. perhaps i'm biased, but i think the food in PJ is better than here. after all, i've stayed in PJ for 7 years, so maybe my tastebuds have been trained to behave a certain way. haha...

i do miss being with my friends though (female companionship) - being with guys is just not the same (no offense to the guys). not that one is better than the other, but i do lack girl friends my age over here. the church also doesn't seem to have many young people my age, especially ladies. i wonder why...hoping to meet up with some friends soon...so that my daily quota of words can be met! lol
