mars and venus

it's one day before january ends. i feel like the year has just started - but at the same time it feels kinda long too, coz there's been so much to do at work especially. the year is going to fly by...

sherm made an interesting observation last nite. i was having dinner with sherm and dan yesterday in JB before we headed back to PJ, he was actually looking for this particular laksa stall but it was closed. there was a famous stall selling 'char kueh' and fried noodles/kueh teow, so we ate there instead. i ordered char kueh and the guys had fried kuehtiaw mixed with noodles. dan said he wasn't hungry, so he wanted to give some to sherm. when their food came first, i wanted to eat some of sherm's noodles - so he said "why not eat from dan's plate?" coz to him, if dan is going to give him some then i might as well take it from dan's plate and that wud save him from having to transfer the noodles to his plate. but i insisted on eating from sherm's plate.

so he asked me - "is this a relational thing?" coz he said he's noticed many women doing the same thing to their partner/spouse. whereas, for the men, usually their reaction wud be one of irritation or annoyance coz when they asked their partner/spouse whether they wanted to eat, they'd say they're not hungry. so they can't understand why when their food comes, the woman wud want some of their food. ahhaha. he says some guys get really upset with their partners for doing that!!

to me, i understand perfectly why women do that. i've never quite realised it before - but it IS a relational thing. taking food or sharing food with my husband/partner is my 'privilege' since we are a couple. to the woman, if the husband were to ask to have some of hers, she wud always be happy to oblige so she can't see why he shud be so selfish with his food. i told him i'd feel hurt if he didn't want to share his food with me :p lucky for me, sherman doesn't really mind. hehe. he had noticed i wud take a little of his food quite often, so he even gives me food from his plate without me asking sometimes :) he told me - he didn't quite know why it made me 'happy' but he noticed it did so he does it. haha.

and i got the guys' version of the story: to them - quantity matters. it's important to them that they have enough to eat, and if some of their food is taken away they might not have enough. this is especially true if he's very hungry or his stomach is very important to him. kahkahkah. not that they're not willing to share, but usually they just don't understand why the woman doesn't order food for herself but ends up wanting to eat their food. hehehe....so they are rather protective of their food, from the looks of it.

women and men REALLY DO COME FROM DIFFERENT PLANETS!!

first post of the year

it's already 13 days into the new year and i've yet to blog. i'm in the office early Sat morning and too sleepy to do any real work. so what the heck, guess i better blog! hahaha. i was up in Camerons last weekend with sherm and the guys. it was a really good getaway-relaxing, and had plenty of time to bond with the guys. our chats esp in the nites have been really interesting and enriching. after that retreat, it's back to reality :p

thinking about this year is kinda scary because it's only january but looking at the calendar, i already know i'll be busy right up til december. lol. with the wedding coming up end of the year, there's lots to do (mostly stil fuzzy but anyhow, we stil have time). it'll be a year of transition, what with moving to a new place, looking for a new job, adjusting to married life after that and so on.

for the next 6-7 months, i'll still be mainly occupied with work and studies. i'm taking my last subject this semester, and starting work on my project paper (need to kickstart soon). thankfully, i've already completed the bulk of my classes and just as well, coz i'm really tied up at work these days. so it's not possible to get afternoons off like i used to.

my boss seems to find extreme joy in creating more and more paperwork for her staff, on top of increased teaching hours due to the lack of full-time lecturers. reason being? KDU is too stingy and only wants to pay pittens but yet wants "good" ppl with experience. hah. it's not a new issue, has never been, considering i've been working here almost 4 years. but sometimes i stil can't believe i haven't upped and left - coz even fresh grads get paid better than i am! sigh...

the good news is - i'm gettin my bonus by 31st jan and hopefully i'll have enuf to cover my uni fees for this semester with some leftovers. if there's money left, it'll go to the wedding fund i guess :) weddings are expensive, even simple ones. everything costs money and a little here, a little there adds up to quite a big amount. sherm and i are really thankful for his sister, and family who have been so generous to us. thank God for His provision!

i can't quite envision what things will really be like when i'm done with my studies and have finally resigned from my job, so will just take things one at a time. just praying for God's strength and grace to go thru this year, and for His love to sustain me throughout...
