durian runtuh (small one lah!)

i got my paycheck for may 2 days ago. and it included a pleasant 'surprise' - an increment! since i had already resigned, i did not expect to be given an increment and my immediate superior had warned me earlier that i would forfeit the increment due to the resignation. because of the conditions attached to my job, i had to give three months' notice and can only leave at the end of the semester. if i had waited until the end of may to tender, then i would not be giving enough notice considering i wanted to leave at the end of july.

so although of course getting an increment would be nice, i thought, oh well - what to do? i want to do the right thing, and be fair to my boss who has to look for new staff to replace me when i leave. but lo and behold, i DID get an increment! hehe...and since it's backdated to jan 1, our paycheck this month included the arrears as well. and that little bit extra would come in handy - since i was wondering how i would be able to save up enough to pay for insurance and my uni fees next sem after i quit.

again, i'm amazed at how God provides faithfully. surely, He knows all our needs :)

saga of the white cloth

time for more updates!

i last posted about finding the perfect material for my cheongsam - but my joy was shortlived. when i took it to the tailor in sban, she inspected the cloth and looked 'horrified'! my heart sank. there were tiny black lines all over the WHITE cloth. i had noticed it earlier when i was buying it, but thot it wasn't really visible, and the salesguy assured me that it was just how the cloth is. i took him at his word and bought the cloth.

however, my tailor was adamant that this cloth would not be good enough for me. she said that those lines meant that the cloth was not well-preserved and it wud only get worse. the longer i kept the cloth, the more lines there wud be - which sooner or later will render the garment unusable. imagine my disappointment!

she advised me to go back to the textile shop and get it changed as soon as i can, since i had only gotten it less than 2 weeks before i went to see her. so i tried hard to think of who i cud go with, since i had to go on a working day. thank god i managed to get dolly to come with me :)

i hate confrontations, and was trying to prep myself up for the 'encounter'. turns out, i didn't actually have to be very forceful and i kinda felt bad that the salesguy kept saying i only had to come back and ask for a replacement nicely because he wasn't trying to cheat me :p

in the end, after a long deliberation and consultation with tailor over the phone, i decided to get the same type of cloth with the same pattern, only that the cloth is thicker this time round - i paid a bit extra to make up for the difference in price. i looked at everything else in the shop, and still, this was the only pattern i wanted.

i was relieved to be able to get it changed tho. so, hopefully the rest of the process (tailoring and etc) will go on smoothly...*keeping fingers crossed*

jobless in 3 months

i've officially resigned from my present job. just gave the resignation letter today, and i'll be leaving end july, as i need to give 3 months notice and can't leave til the end of the current semester (which is july lah).

and so, i've started the countdown to the last day of work here in KDU :) my first ever REAL job, and this is my first resignation letter. hehe...

the perfect cloth

i've found the cloth for my cheongsam! *insert a triple somersault here* yay!! i've been looking for the perfect material to make my wedding attire, and now the search is finally over! i went down town to the central market area with cat and diana yesterday...and it was so fruitful :)

this shop that we went to, Fah Num, carries a wide range of brocade cloth (usually used to make cheongsam) and we were spoilt for choice. i narrowed it down to 3, one with butterfly prints, one which was really light pink with darker pink flowers and the one that i eventually bought (white with plum/cherry blossom prints also in white).

the butterfly one was too flat (not enuf 'busyness' on the cloth) and therefore looked too plain, the light pink one was quite nice, but not quite elegant enuf. so in the end, settled for the one i've always had in mind since i saw this: http://www.efushop.com/product_pages/SCT/sct31.html

now, the next part is to choose the tailor - it's between the one in ss2 or the one in sban. i've yet to make an appointment to see the sban tailor, hopefully next weekend. i kinda like the ss2 one, they are very established and i've tried on one of the cheongsams there so i know that i like their cheongsams. but they are probably more expensive than the sban one, since it's in ss2. so we'll see how it goes...

after that, i stil need to look for white shoes to go, and decide what to do with my hair, and the make-up.

soooo many things just for one day! faints!
